The Future of Closed Drugstores: Plasma Centers, Restaurants, and Dog Parks

With drugstore closures sweeping the U.S. and Canada, developers are turning empty locations into innovative spaces. A former Rite Aid in Alpharetta, Georgia, has been transformed into Off Leash, a combination dog park and restaurant. Other empty drugstores are becoming plasma collection centers, thrift stores, and car washes.

While repurposing drugstores can be challenging, especially when dealing with building design and community concerns, their prime locations make them ideal for creative reuse. Developers are seizing the opportunity to convert these spaces into much-needed retail and healthcare facilities, bringing new life to once-abandoned properties.
