What questions should I be asking myself when setting goals?

Hey I'm brand new to the community as of a week ago and working on setting goals for real estate. I realize it's very personal and depends on many factors, however I am a little lost on 'how' to get started. I'm seeking advice from those who have already built a portfolio or have a clear goal set out for real estate. My questions for you:

- What are 3-5 questions I should ask myself to help me determine my strategy and setting my goal(s)?

- Multifamily properties and/or extremely distressed properties seem to be where every 'wants' to get into because cash flow opportunities are highest. Is this true? Are turn key single-family homes played out?

- Currently, my 'intrigue' is pulling me towards buying properties to create cash flow. Ultimately creating another income stream for myself. Based on preliminary research, the market today makes that harder than ever. Is there a method that's showing more opportunity with the change in real estate over the past 2-3 years through COVID?

- Anything else you'd recommend that I am not asking? Any help in pointing me in the right direction or providing a little scope to narrow things down would be helpful. Thank you.
