Just cash out stock portfolio can I move it into real estate
Hi everyone,
I recently got out of the stock market and would like to move the cash into real estate. Can I use a 1031 exchange to defer the 15% tax on my capital gain when I move it into the property I'm investing?

@Chuong Pham - I'm not a CPA, but I'm pretty sure you cannot. The 1031 is a "like-kind" exchange, which means you are trading real estate for real estate. If I misunderstand that, hopefully someone will correct it here!
