You granted an equitable interest in the property and upon payment in full will deliver the legal interest.  

Are there legal or tax issues that would over complicate trying to keep money in the family?

While legal, such a law flirts with the morality and helping others.

We did that for a while until it was getting too difficult to compete with companies like Legal Zoom. 

The trouble is that for that little money the legal is going to dominate things so much that it probably won't make sense to crowdfund things.  

The thing that really scares me in this thread, and @Steve Babiak touched on it briefly, is everyone here is willy-nilly writing a rejection letter that could get them into serious legal trouble.

As an alternative, set up a Series LLC, to file one tax return for what is legally treated as separate LLC’s.

There was recently a thread on this forum that discussed the legality of such landlord reasoning.

There is a basement that I plan to use for myself, but I am not sure if it's allowed by the city being that it's not a legal basement.
