@Lance Blight No matter the case as long as you're reducing your cost of living expense by having tenants pay for some or all of your mortgage you are house hacking.I would caution you, though.

It is common for Buyers to ask Sellers to cover some or all of their "closing costs and pre-paids" UP TO a set amount, which is especially helpful for cash-poor buyers who don't have much. 

As long as you communicate up front the responsibilities it works.

The only guy I ever had to evict from one of my properties, I had put on a 'written communication only' plan because he just couldn't seem to catch on.

It is a little more hands on regarding the communication and booking requests, but I find it much easier, and simple.
