May depend on what your authorization form says; however, if the rental application asks for a forwarding address, and your authorization section provides authorization for confirming or verifying any of the information on the form, then I would ask your lawyer if that reasonably covers doing a credit check after they leave to "verify" their forwarding address by cross checking the latest addresses listed on their credit report.
