If you live for 2 years and then rent for 3.5 years and then sell, you can no longer claim that you lived in the property for 2 years in the last 5 years prior to sale because at that point, you would have only 1.5 years counted within that 5 year window.I know this can be confusing, let me know if you would like me to rephrase it.
