I am curious if anyone has experience in this area with regards to the best materials to use and the pros and cons of the different routes that can be taken.

However, to answer your question you are in the right place to learn and starting with the book you mentioned is a good place to start.In regards to what you may like, that will depend on what part of the business you resonate with, so to that end I suggest you keep researching as much material on BP as possible and post questions when you are unsure of what you are learning or simply need more clarification.
