It sounds weird, but you can start by literally reading anything - even if its sports, cars, fashion, etc.

I have a close friend whose father buys and sells luxary cars on the side in a similar fashion. 

Also ask your realtor what they are doing to get it sold and see if they have a handyperson who can do the repairs-in a timely fashion.
