If you're doing something major like moving walls, adding a deck, or doing extensive electrical, I'd get a permit and ask for help from a licensed, experienced contractor. 2) Look in the Education section for business plans. 3) I'm not sure about the transfer piece but I bet you can find your answer in the forums.

Just be aware that you will need to replace every piece of drywall in each unit to avoid any issues in the future.
