Hi Jenny, it depends on what your strategy is but if you're looking for newer properties in affordable and growing cities I would recommend Anna, Princeton, Melissa, Forney - anything north of Plano. 

Given that there's a higher income opportunity I'm wondering if doing the rent-by-the-room strategy might work?

Again, the owner is older, and owns these properties outright, so I believe keeping the consistent income might be enticing to him.Any other considerations I should be thinking of? 

@Dylan Greytak I'm a big proponent of Section 8 housing for a good strategy for landlords, I think it can be a valuable tenant base, you just have to screen them just as any other tenants.

You will want to read through them carefully and also have a second exit strategy in case STR is not allowed or get banned in the future.
