I too have house hacked and it lowered my bills significantly to walk away from a 9 to 5.

Conversely, if the home is owned by the resident, they are not going to walk away from their home that is worth 20-50k.

(ask me how i know) ....Have you walked the property line and looked for stakes? 

If you make one little mistake, they can walk away without penalty.

Walk neighborhoods, knock doors, flyers, host or sponsor events...

This means there is a lot up to the insurance and lender discretion and I would prefer to at least have a strategy in mind for the worst-case scenario, which may include walking away of course.I understand seller financing may not work if the house is the seller's primary asset.
