You'd be better off having all your money tied up than trying to navigate through the mine field of securities laws which can land you in hot water easily.

Also, you will have to know how to navigate all the paperwork as the broker that lists the property is basically only putting on the MLS then it is hands-off from there. 

My recommendation would be to find an insurance navigator to work through the options with you - they are trained by the state and free for you to access, usually work for community organizations.
