@Ibrahim S  know it as a sump pump. probably rent it from Home Depot or wherever.it looks kind of like a kitchen garbage disposal with a hose attached. works like a powerful vacuum. just run the hose to where you want the water to go ( choose wisely ) and plug in the pump.god knows why the water is there, that will be another issue.

well, just as an update, after getting tons of opinions at work...i ended up returning all my painting materials to home depot and traded it in for a random orbital sander --- which i just wanted to say is freaking awesome!

@Robert Conroy Those basement systems when I looked into them were almost the same price as a local basement remodeler without the ability to easily make changes in the future(which doesn't matter as much to you I realize).Personally unless it is a really bad DIY job or your target price range is high I would paint the paneling a light beige color to brighten it up put down some new carpet from Home Depot without padding (~$0.69/sq ft + $150 install from a local installer from my last basement job) and call it good.
