If there is water pooling around the base of the home then something is making the water run under the house....if it is pooling from all sides of the home...then I would try to make sure there was no sink hole activity under the home.

If there are some differential settlement (the house is sinking in a non uniform way), you should be able to see diagonal cracks on the bricks, specially from the corners of the openings (windows/doors).

It is when the Trustee sells the home at auction in a foreclosure action.If there is room in your deal to offer the wife cash for keys, she may be pursuaded when she realizes that she gets nothing in the foreclosure.Then again, she may have a different mission, and want the ship to sink so that her husband cannot benefit.
