I should clarify a few points because it’s a bit more complicated.

You all are simply making it way too complicated!

If I were to make a list, in order, of how to clear out all the noise (i.e. all the stuff that isn't directly helping you get where you want to go and making things more complicated), I'd say:1.

However, if you installed a complicated thermostat that is difficult for the average user to operate without a manual, then you should bare some responsibility.Can they just unplug it, remove the battery, and wipe the memory? 

You either work with two people which creates many complications or find a mid-size CPA firm that has specialists in each area but still runs the entire process through the same firm.
