If there is an expense payment required - you would typically submit appropriate form to the custodian, wait for them to approve it and then they will generate the check from your IRA account and send it to the payee according to your instructions.If you don't want to deal with the "middleman" (the custodian) for each transaction you can bypass the custodian by using Checkbook IRA (aka IRA owned LLC).
