any time I have rented( very few) I have had a hard time getting any DD deposit back as the landlord needs to repair this or clean that, even when I was a resident manager of an ampartment building, they held money back when I moved out as the stove wasn't clean enough.

Believe me you will have "extra work" if you hold property in your own name and get sued - that extra work will include not owning a primary residence either because they will take that as well.
