I've found Matt Faircloth's book on Raising Private Capital to give some helpful and pragmatic tips such as explicitly documenting and reviewing roles and expectations and ensuring commonly asked questions and concerns are addressed such as "when/how can I expect my investment to be returned" or "what if I need the money back before the loan term ends?"
