Certainly banks are not particularly eager to foreclose,  so the combination of lack of effort, lack of emergency fund, and slow banks getting to the completion of the foreclosure process means they likely did not handle the situation responsibly. 

I've toyed around with the idea of making a python script to automatically do this if not Not to hiajck this thread, but I’m curious what strategies people use as vacant nights approach and/or during slow season.

The first deals are slow, painfully slow, and then if you treat people right and keep consistently working, you end up with more opportunities than you can juggle without scaling up.
