I am still very hungry for knowledge and I learn from every post on this site.Now to the title captured above, I read this article by Adam Doran where he emphasizes the need for empathy and putting yourself in the shoes of the person you are dealing with, all with a view to solving his problems, rather than just making a sale.

Same concept applies for the garage- but I would probably leave the garage as-is since most people use it for storage anyway, so it doesn't need to be fancy.Also, I'm not sure what your plans are for your color scheme, but keep in mind that grey is the new beige and quartz is the new granite!
