You want to be successful?

Management fees are steep, you're competing w/ bigger operators as well as mom & pop places - it's hard to get the personalized care needed, in my opinion, to be successful. 

While there are definitely benefits to running a fund, it's tough to achieve success with funds as a beginner because oftentimes investors are attracted to the track record of the person or team running the fund. 

He created it for himself originally,  and it became a success afterwards. 

The ideal funders want to see a successful first round first, so I need to find more traditional investors for the first round.
