I'd certainly check the foundation as leaks will flow all the wat down, there could be foundation problems as well adding to the problem.The facing of bricks chipping off is from freezing and thawing over the years, moistue, just humidity can enter brick and cause facings to chip off, not so much of a structural issue as cosmetic.That's my first guess based on pics I saw, you need to get someone out there with hands on.

It wasn't that hard ( but wet drywall is heavy) and it needs to be done sooner rather than later in hot, humid climates.
