So holding seems best financially.However, a few friends and family have raised concerns about whether my ex and I continuing to co-own this property will cause a lot of stress for us over the years and make it difficult for us to maintain a healthy relationships with another partner.

Stressful, not fun, but I'm glad we were able to get out of it without too much damage.In the meantime, we had canceled our offer on the house (because we were worried we couldn't get out of the co-op deal), and now the house is gone as well.We have $150k in cash, but no access to mortgage/financing. 

If you thi k the stress of having this property isn't worth it for you, then who cares about equity and cash flow.

The homes I bought did not have a sale status for quite some time but once closed, I didn’t stress over it anymore.

It also allows you to feel less stressed while making purchases because you aren't in a haste to retire.

Can’t stress understanding zoning laws enough…I tried this and found out it was a requirement to have a firewall, and each unit has to have two exterior doors.
