But, where I'm going with this is that, in doing some of our due diligence prior to our offer brought up the problem that the property owner owes about 9,000 in taxes, (~6.5k in city and ~2k in county) and he has already received notice that his property will be sold at a tax auction if he doesn't pay the taxes plus interest.

In the last 3 years most of our acquisitions have either been off-market deals brought to us by brokers, or deals that sold to other buyers - sometimes multiple times - but fell out of contract and we were eventually able to get it for the price we wanted.Andrew

I doubt the street gang thing could be a possibility but I remember that as a warning being brought up for properties in high crime areas.
