It is required prior to evicting, make sure you read the requirements for the 3 day notice because one slip up on it and you may end up having to start the process over again (little things like not having your phone number, not having or an address within the county to mail rent to, including other fees other than rent in the amount due) or counting days that do not qualify in the 3 days such as the day you post it, weekends, or court holidays)They were able to push the last landlord around, don't let them do the same to you.

Courts take time, better to non-renew as soon as you take ownership, give them the heads up your not renewing them and that you'd accept a early notice to vacate with a bonus once apartment is emptied.
