I think once the hurdle of getting it setup is done then it's pretty smooth sailing. 

Revocable living trusts can play a nice role if you own a small business and want the transition to go smoothly when you pass away (e.g. a family business where the parents want certain children to take over the business).

It can take time and be difficult to do if you're not a writer, so I recommend hiring a writer or someone you know that can do this part-time.

Its totally possible to invest from out of the country and many do it, but way more often than not, those people has contracts, signed documents, and great people to make sure everythings running smoothly.
