I do a lot of reading and planning when I'm at work.

I just read this post, and used to live in Cary, as well. 

I am currently reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and have been listening to the podcasts constantly.For the most part, I am interested in residential single-family homes to begin with.

After various readings, podcasts, and videos I discovered that no, college and engineering may not be my way.

He also has a new book out, I haven't read it but it sounds great. 

In the meantime, read up, listen to podcasts, etc.

From what I have read and your comments it seems like Manchester is a good spot to take a better look because it is closer to my works and a little more active. 

My guess before I read it, is that it will say real estate cycles are about 20 years + or -.
