Two first floor rooms have floors you'd go through to the basement if you walked in certain areas.  

I live down in Texas in Dallas County and I am 60 years old and I found BP because I was still medically recovering from a brain annuerism and a stroke looking for something that is flexible, otherwise I would still be working in my own flooring company and would never have found BP.  

Did they simply clean the carpet and give it a coat of new paint, or did they actually put in the work to give the prop a new roof, new HVAC, new flooring, etc?

If for the whole duplex, you could get something that will hang from the ceiling in the garage if you have a high enough ceiling or a corner were it won't take away as much usable floor space.

The Fine Young Man has experience with the rental machines (he's helped a friend with his rentals), so it's an opportunity for him to jump in right away and get some 'skin in the game' with this new house.The question is -- what happens to the original hardwood floors under the carpet? 

get a set of plans and bid them out.. add up all the bids and that is your cost.excavation.. foundation rough plumb rough heat framing windows roof siding insulation and sheet rock.. probably cabinets as well.then you can take it from there do your own finish work  paint  .. hire out flooring and granite counters etc. and you can do the finish plumb and electrical but I would have the same people that did the rough do that all for one price.

I had my own flooring company so I know flooring rather well.

Sebastian, The kitched appliances look quite outdated and the hardwood floors do look like they would need to be refinished.
