Real estate has been a good investment vehicle since the beginning of time and will continue to be until the end of time regardless who is in charge.

I still think its reasonably priced relative to some of the other JC areas and there are a couple of rail stations right there that will continue to make it an attractive place to live for NYC commuters.

They can't add value to their holdings through any effort of their own.One can invest in real estate and achieve "diversification" through the public markets using multiple vehicles - most prominently through Real Estate Investment Trusts, or REITS.

And, having enough RE to shield those other revenue streams is important as well, since this way I can earn less and keep more...So, unlike our friend Burke who practices real estate as both a business and investment vehicle, I see RE as a tool - one tool of many.

If you’re stuck trying to refi into a different loan product, or have to sell or come up with cash from other investment vehicles during a downturn because you’ve got a hefty balloon payment coming up, that could be trouble.
