I think truly the greatest barrier to entry in this area is the initial investment.

Good on you @Tyler Jahnke, I have had similar disasters initially but once you get the skills, you'll succeed.One of the best bits of advice my accountant ever gave me was "Just make sure you learn enough so that 51% of everything you do works. 

So go to local meetings, be a familiar face and if you don't have local meetings, start one.. that could also show people you're taking initiative and taking it seriously at your age.Finally, look into the books you can find here on BP by J Scott about flipping houses, contains all the knowledge and numbers you would be expected to know as wholesaler.

Hello BP community,I find that there are lots of sub-par companies and people out there and from our initial conversations with certain lenders or investors, I suspect them of being fraudulent. 

Any thoughts from your dad about how to verify the issue is resolved?
