@Justin Brown if you have the money for a down payment, your best bet is to own instead of lease an STR.

I'm sure you can find some good advice on this forum, but speaking with a lawyer/accountant is going to be your best bet. 

Mexico has very long coastlines though so you can't just bet but you could strike gold if you get it righted we're making best use of our local connections to find out before the word gets out.
