I had called the owner the same morning the ad in Newsday came out, but someone elsehad jumped on it and put a deposit down on the property even before the ink had dried on the ad.Here on LI, RE is very, VERY expensive and(IMHO), overpriced.

The main issue I see here is that the contract would be in the name of the IRA.If the contract is in your personal name and the deposit comes from the IRA, I would see a major issue.

You should follow the local laws to take the security deposit- equal to 1.5 month's rent, but I'd expect the management company to be handling this.
