The wall system needs to be able to remain dry and the fear of covering old siding is that you will trap condensation between the existing vapor barrier under the old siding and the new vapor barrier you would put on top of the old siding, causing internal rot in the old siding.

Also For future deals I highly recommend making move in earlier because you are losing 21 days of revenue. 7-14 days after lease signing is a reasonable hold in a good market.
