the unit I lived in had 3 units, basement, main and upper, and was in between storefronts on a downtown street.

Then, I tell them that I thoroughly screen everyone that will live there and I don't take anyone that has been evicted in the past 7 years; I don't take anyone that has a felony; I don't take anyone that has more than 2 misdemeanors in the past 3 years; or anyone that has any illegal drugs on their record in the past 7 years.

That won't test the sewer and drain lines though as I recall.The shutoff at the street level might be broken in the off position.

Does your lease give the whole driveway to one unit, and instruct the other to park on the street?  

Its for 4 houses all on the same street, the owner got into some financial trouble so he's motivated.
