I believe you can pay extra for a local number, I use the one they gave me which starts with 321.I don't get that many faxes, but sometimes when computers are not working, or contractors have to go to Kinko's to send a scan of something, it's easier for them to fax.

I read somewhere it was a requirement and I went to call and electrician to fix in one of the rooms. but the inspector did not even take notice of the room that did not have a permanent light fixture- so i guess it is not a requirement.
