I've also been accused of being cheap and stingy a lot because I choose not to spend my money eating out/drinking/getting high/buying stupid junk on amazon/reusing bags/fancy apartment/etc (I personally don't think asking someone for their agreed upon 1/3 of utilities in a household of 3 people makes me "cheap").

You hope at the end of 30 years you have a nice retirement nest egg but the reality is you have no guarantee that the money you have invested will even be there or it could actually lose value or not appreciate at all.
