To pretty much everyone's point it's a fools game to try and time markets.Here's the rub- folks who are prepared with dry powder will be able to capitalize on the downturn obviously much better than folks who have no reserves/dry powder.

You can sear it first if you don't mind an extra dirty pan to wash; I don't bother.Add a bit of liquid, maybe an inch in the bottom of the pot: red wine, broth, brandy, water with a Tablespoon of soy sauce, or coffee (yes, coffee).Sprinkle some seasonings on top of everything: onion powder, a clove of fresh garlic, chili powder if you are going Mexican, basil and oregano if you are going Italian, maybe a can of cream of mushroom soup.

If you decide to do this keep substantial powder dry for the "what if's" that are really just "when's" waiting to happen.The quality of a deal is not found in comparison with other deals.
