Virtually everything in the news is saying there is no hope for home ownership, everyone is going to be a renter, etc., but the overall home ownership % nationally vs. renter % is actually up. 

I suppose that doesn't make a good news headline though "FL housing, almost normal inventory level...." 

Ispoke to a couple of folks in two of their US locations, the usual sleuthing before giving someone your hard earned money.The good news is that named/accredited (CPA's)/qualified individuals (who can be researched online) answered my calls and provided helpful responses to my inquiries.

In related news Joe's Crabshack will lose a lot of their lunch crowd.

It also depends on your price point and budget. because this is going to be your personal residence, at this point, I would just keep aware of city news and developments, and neighborhood pockets.

And many are the ones you are reading about in the news (or soon will) as they lose properties to foreclosure and wind their way through civil (and occasionally criminal) court.  

Also I posted a news article in Vegas recently where the law there has allowed private security to go in like a Swat raid and kick out squatters.

One thing I missed is RETA does get you some pretty good payment plans if you live in North America.Those payment plans are not available to Europeans from what I can remember.
