They can both be great paths to wealth over time but you are comparing apples to oranges .

Especially if Amazon or Apple ends up there.

However, while the results of your big lift may be lower operating and maintenance costs, if the local market will not support sufficiently high rents to provide a timely pay-back, you have over improved.   

I hung 30 sheets of drywall (4’x8’x 1/2”) on the main floor ceiling with a drywall lift by myself.

Quantities are fine as this will help to get to "apples to apples" comparison when looking at cost and amount of work.

I'm just worried about leveling the house which will require interior piers and exterior piers and other damage that might occur after the house is lifted/leveled...

Typically this is after the homebuyer has lifted all contingencies.

You can spot these by really nice lifted trucks with big tires they provide white glove service with expensive pricing.Good luck!
