Their response is that they are going to wait until they pass away and their children will inherit it and take advantage of the step-up basis to avoid capital gains. 1031-exchange is not an option because these people are old and don't want to own other property.

I understand that ultimately, the responsibility falls with me...but I also wanted to reach out and see if anyone has a perspective or strategic approach to rectifying this manner. 1) Connect pipe (50ft) - not overly concerned with this aspect. 2) Clean up and have restoration company undo the damage - mildly concerned and expect a few thousand dollars fee (who pays?)

Novice here, looking for investment property (no rentals) w/in 6-10 months.Areas of interest in Central NY - West, South, and North-West of Syracuse, and East side Auburn.Question:First time home owner; to buy first flip property as my FIRST and PRIMARY residence, or buy a home to stay in personally, and wait 2-4 years to build more cash for purchase of secondary/tertiary properties on the side to be flipped?

There are several lenders specializing in such, here is a list that you may find helpful:https://www.biggerpockets.com/blogs/2810/50272-lis...You can do cash-out refi, but you would have to wait several years before you could do that, most lenders will not use appraised value until 3 years after the purchase, they will use purchase price as the value.
