But this is how I filed:1) Mortgage interest and property taxes for the primary residence went on Schedule A.2) Using the date I changed the locks as the split, all income and expenses incurred on the rental property prior to the that date - including the locks - went on Schedule E.

The landlord property code you are referencing seems to be more targeted to the ability to lock the door from the inside without the ability to unlock from outside.
