Joe, I can say that a lot of people avoid the West End/Portland areas, but I believe those people are short-sighted or unable to see the potential in these areas. 

Some people are just lucky I guess.

I know a few people that operate in the new england area with STRs and do well so don't feel like you can't do something closer to home.
