Here's an island kitchen idea, I put a 'wall' at the end of the island to run wire/gas down to the island from the ceiling.

@Steve Might  there may be other needs to break open the slab besides drains and water supply lines.Underground electric runs to a kitchen island for example...unless you want to add an ugly drop from the ceiling.When putting in new central air conditioning (previously window units) you need to have a condensate line out.
