I've only been exploring this whole new world for a month now, but I am about to start my 4th book (I'm a slow reader but getting faster) and have not listened to music in the car for a while now, just podcasts and it's been really amazing learning about real estate.I am currently the engineering & quality assurance manager for an overhead crane company in Azle and I'm looking to further my knowledge in real estate and figure out how and when to make my first deal.

The bottom line is you gain more control, reduce the risk and most likely get better returns.Since you are self-employed, in addition to a self-directed IRA you should also explore the option of self-directed Solo 401k plan, which is designed specifically for small business owners or sole-proprietors.
