Far from our jobs etc.This things will prevent us from residing at the place but have seen good deals in slightly father market such as NJ,PA even Upstate NY, but the NYC area forget it I am lucky to find a multifam that can go for less than 600k if that!.

It is only a potential property I am looking at right now, but my lawyer recommended 3 or 6 month leases for the sake of if I had a bad tenant I could terminate the lease instead of renewing thus preventing an eviction.

The michigan law that you cite puts a really weird twist on this, you can prevent anything that breaks a state or federal law, and that is a common clause but the MI law may nullify that.
