There's a difference between vandalism and negligence; the latter is not usually criminally actionable when it comes to non-animated property (i.e. a car or a house versus a little kid or a pet). 

Any animals should be crated or removed from the property.Hide or remove valuables, weapons, prescription medications, or anything that someone may be tempted to stealYour lease transfers with the sale.

Dogs must be crated during the times when no animal caregiver is at home.

(or help him find something similar online)  Whatever his reason let the guy talk about it and maybe escalation can be avoided.

We are currently traveling (and will be for the next 6 months) so we can't really go with a small local bank or credit union because we need to be able to do it all online, including closing.Another option for us would be to cash out some of our retirement savings.
