I've tried to learn QuickBooks numerous times and it never got better or easier over the many years it's been around. 

I would try to time it so that I have to funds ready right before I purchase the LTR for home equity loan scenario.

Sounds like there was not a fit in terms of style .. like a Wall Street type trying to hang out with a SoCal surfer type.
