I would say hotels are direct competitors for me and if my prices were much closer to even the low end hotels/motels my first timer guests would have probably stayed there because they are more comfortable in a hotel until they get used to a private room Airbnb.

You have to front the cost of water and electric but they do all the maintenance for you without having to loop you in (usually through some kind of direct line).

Options include but not limited to:1) private lending - you can do it directly with flippers or through agencies that offer such services2) invest in the commercial real estate ( can be apartments or other assets) via syndications - you can find a lot of us here on BP.
