I like to avoid the big rush of "hot" markets and try to find the warm ones with potential to become hot later.As for variables, you can look at employment rate, median wages, employment growth, population growth, median income, crime, foreclosures, infrastructure, future construction, etc.

One of the Colorado Spring's biggest economic drivers is tourism which is taking place year round, however, you'll find things slow down a bit in the middle of fall and spring when the snow doesn't exist quite so much in the mountains for good skiing but it's not quite warm enough for people to enjoy the summer activities.
